Hello, I'm in the UK and we've had Quorn hear for years - I didn't realsie

you couldn't get it in the US. Basically it is liek a meat substutute - we

use it in the ready-made sauces etc you can get as a meat substitute. It

looks like pork chunks, and I wouldn't say it tastes like chicken

personally, but to someone who has been a vegetarian for a long time perhaps

it would....it's more the texture that is 'meat-like'. We use it in

stir-frys and curries/pasta (esp. those 'sizzle and stir' type sauces - and

I find it's good to give non-vegetarians when they come around as they don't

feel like they are being fed 'just vegetables' (which seems to be a

complaint of most non-veggies) and they are getting a 'proper meal'. Ha ha

ha - little do they know until afterwards!

 

Also - you can get 'chicken-less' fillets etc over here - which are like

lemon quorn in breadcrumbs dressed up to look like a chicken fillet - this

can be a dit dry so I'd suggest some nice veggie gravy or sauce to go with

it if you have time. The 'southern-style chicken-less burgers' are also

really nice and I think they are made from quorn.

 

Definitely good in sauces and stuff, but a bit tasteless on it's own without

a marinade etc.

Liek I said though - brilliant if you want a quick dinner without all the

hassle of chopping veg etc - and very good for new vegetarians who are used

to cooking with meat as you can just adapt most old 'meat' dishes you do.

Hey all,

 

In the wild, dogs and cats are hunters and scavengers. They tend to eat what they can find, and when they do have meat, it includes this animal's stomach and digestive organs, thus giving them a higher amount of roughage and vegetable matter (assuming the prey was a herbivore or omnivore). Thus, even meat eaters are basically omnivores, in one sense of the word. Anyway, I digress.

 

In captivity, the pet is going to eat what it is given, and what it can find. I choose to feed my dogs a mixed diet, with high quality (meat and cereal based) dry food, with added veggies and meat. I do, however, make an effort to give them meat which would be otherwise discarded, such as sheep's hearts, and raw chicken carcasses - both of which are very good for them. My Jack Russell is overweight (due to a prolonged stay with my stepfather), but I don't think that giving her a diet of veggies will help her loose the weight in a sustainable, not dietary balanced manner. She gets her complete dry food, and sometimes a little meat, and whatever veggies I have, or some tofu etc. My German Shepherd is in a different category. She is about to undergo testing for all sorts of things, because despite the amount of food I give her, she will not put on any weight, and is very slim. Meat seems to be the only food which helps her condition, l although I am trialing her on a rice based dry food, as it is meant to be more highly digestible than cereals. She is a funny dog, and will happily steal anything she can from your plate when you aren't looking. I remember the great tofu tote-off, the broccoli break out, the zucchini snatch and the great potato mystery among others!

 

My rats on the other hand are virtually vegan, and love it! I say virtually, as they sometimes get snacks of dry dog food, and are currently getting a supplement called livamol. I didn't complain when Ben gave two of them fish yesterday either, as they asked for it.

 

Missy is also on a supplement for her arthritis, which is seafood based. She cannot have the regular drugs, tested and made from animals, but this seems to help. So this seems 6 to one, half dozen to the other.

 

Sorry this is so long, I know no one was attacking, but this is what I believe. Nor will I give up pets!

 

BTW - Missy was a pup from an accidental litter, Griff was a backyard breeder, sold to the petshop when they couldn't place her, got too big there, and was sent home with us for a good life. I bought two of my rats, a third was not weaned when separated from Mum for a snake expo, and came home with me instead, the fourth was dumped by an irresponsible pair of parents at the vets, and the other four (I lost Diesel last week, though) where ex breeders from the pet shop who needed a home. I believe that I give our animals a better, thou different, life than they would have in the wild. The rats are the wrong colours, and would quickly be eaten. Missy would be crippled, preyed upon, or just starve to death because of imobility, and Griff would probably not find enough food to survive, and would not get vet care to right the problem

Hello everyone.

Just got to share this information. My left hand was very dry and

the skin was pelling off in patches. This has been going on for

probally 3 or 4 years now. (Guess you know now how bad a shape I am

in) Well anyway, 2 days ago I took some grass from my yard and

rubbed my hand with it. About a minute later a was able to rub off

layers and layers of dead skin off of my hand. I keep looking at my

hand in amazement. I have tried Olive oil, raw honey, and a few

other things which helped some but nothing even comes close to how

soft my hand feels now just rubbing the grass on my hand for a

minute. I'm amazed.

NO MORE RED MEAT FOR ME --- and I grew up on a ranch (with 4 huge feedlots)

in ND!

 

Of course the BRAIN will be helped even MORE by an increase in WATER.

Our brains are 85 percent water, so chronic, severe dehydration is one of

causes of brain cancers. Simply not enough water there to function

properly.

Water carried nutrients and toxins in and out of our cells and is the

substance between cells
