DEN Alert: Help Stop the Wildlife Lockup at the Arizona Border

 

In a move that could result in the deaths of thousands of animals,

the Bush administration wants to seal off 189 miles of the

Arizona-Mexico border. The administration would erect 340 miles of

Berlin Wall-style barriers and develop 5,200 acres of the border –

adding roads, high-intensity lights, and numerous helicopter and

all-terrain vehicle routes. The casualties? Some of America's most

beloved wildlife species, including the Sonoran pronghorn and the

American jaguar, both critically endangered. Even the administration

puts the potential loss of life at 2,842 mammals and 4,487 birds.

 

 

WHAT YOU CAN DO:

 

Please send a free fax urging the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to

consider the impact of this proposal on endangered wildlife and its

habitat. The deadline for comments is Friday, FEBRUARY 7, so please

send your fax today. Thanks for helping to protect wildlife along

our nation's borders.
