We've had *rather* heated discussions on a Witchy egroup I run about Veganism and Vegetarianism. Some of the members seem to think that they honour Mother Earth by killing and eating animals. Hmm...can't quite understand the logic with that one. Then there's the group who claim to follow the Wiccan precept "Harm None" - except when it comes to eating animals, of course. Then, of course, there's the 'humans are meant to eat meat; we've always eaten meat' group. And those who claim that by buying pre-slaughtered, packaged intensively farmed animal flesh they are somehow 'getting back to their roots' as hunters and gathers and living 'naturally'. Finally, there's the 'vegetables have feelings too' group. *sigh* I would have thought that 'Harm None' is a pretty clear precept. It's amazing what people will do to try to justify the slaughter and consumption of innocent animals!
