Guest guest
Hi all, I guess I'm a fundamentalist Witch, because I believe precisely that to Harm None leaves no alternative but Veganism. But although my Coven are all Vegan (except for one vegetarian!), we seem to be an oddity in the Pagan community. I think, ultimately, people will always find excuses to enable them to do what they want, and Pagans are no exception. It's sad but so many of the Pagans I know simply don't follow the precepts through to their logical conclusions. What's even more sad is the number of Pagans who believe that they're different and special because they don't follow a mainstream religion, they trot out the same excuses I've heard members of every other religion make. The best one though would have to be the non-veg Buddhists, who claim that they can eat meat without any issues because they weren't the ones who did the actual killing, dsespite the fact that it is their demand that keeps the cruelty happening! Shame! Sorry if I seem a little ranty about this - it's just a topic I feel strongly about. Leanne XXX " Danielle Kichler " <veggietart Re: Re: Vegans are witches??? I don't know about that, Simon, but I know of a Wiccan woman who went vegan because the Wiccan rede is something like " An ye harm done, do what ye will, " --'an' means 'if.' Well, one cannot eat meat, milk, and eggs without harming animals, right? I am not well versed in this regard, so if I am wrong, someone please correct me. Paganism, I believe, has a deep respect for the earth, and raising animals for food greatly harms the earth. From what I understand, Wicca and Paganism fall under the same religious " umbrella, " so to speak. I don't know if they practice it as a matter of course, though. And while you may find veg*an pagans, you're probably equally likely to find veg*an x-tians, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, agnostics, atheists, and any other religion. Other than myself and my parents, I only know 2 other Pagan Vegans (OK, I guess that with you, that makes 3 others! :-)) > Sorry if I seem a little ranty about this - it's just a topic I feel strongly about. Rant on - I don't think you'll find many people disagreeing with you on this list. BB Peter --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com). Guest guest
Leanne, I don't think you're ranty at all; in fact, you seem quite composed. You are merely calling a spade a spade, and if calling hypocrites out is ranting, then I am major rant chick.
