My oldest son and I do not eat gluten. We don't test out as celiac,

but he has Crohn's and can't eat it, and I don't know why it makes me

sick, but it does. Also, I have been wanting to go vegan for years,

and just felt overwhelmed with my limited schedule and limited grocery

options (no health food store to speak of......at least not that I

have found, yet. We're new here.) Can you tell me your best

suggestions, books etc.... for my making the change? Thank you. Lori

hi lori

my family's vegan and i avoid most gluten (and i run a vegan and gf

wholesale bakery here in auckland, nz).

like you, i intended to go vegetarian for years before i actually did

it - meeting my husband (who's now been vegan for 30 years) spurred me

into making that change and it was absolutely the best thing to do!

are you vegetarian or omni at the moment? what are your favourite

foods? what are you afraid you'll miss?!

this is a very helpful group.

i also recommend www.fatfreevegan.com - the recipe files are great, and

there are quite a lot of gf meals in there.

best wishes

alice

Right now I am just trying to make the change to meatless. I don't

know that I am afraid I will miss anything, but time is precious with

work, college, hubby, sons (one who is special needs and on a really

restricted diet) and several pets. I find cooking for me is one thing,

but trying to cook for everyone........phew! I'm working something out

with DH so that he is in charge of the meat. I do the rest. We shall

see. After the end of Sept, I won't be working anymore, just college.

I was a vegetarian in my twenties but that was a long time ago. I find

it is just too easy to go back to old eating habits when life gets

stressful. Lori
