Guest guest
Hello there. I have a rather urgent question, please. I am getting a saliva test *tomorrow* (FRIDAY) for my hormonal levels, and just discovered some interesting things on the test sheet. Evidently, I could be tested for antibodies to eggs, milk, soy, and gliadin (gluten, right?). I can also be tested for " total secretory IgA " . Which of these should I request the Doctor that I be allowed to test for, since I am doing the saliva test anyway? I have been for the most part soy-free for 1 1/2 yrs., and gluten-free and casein-free since October, except for a few infractions recently because 1) we moved into a home without a stove(it's been 2 months now waiting for the install!) and 2)recent vacation to a remote location where GFCFSF foods were not readily available. I am vegetarian also, so my choices are severely limited (as you all know. I am preaching to the choir, for sure.) Are these saliva tests for the antibodies reliable? Would I learn anything valuable to my avo idance of certain foods? Or is just eliminating certain ones enough? I don't know how much more $$ is involved if I add those others on, but it may be worth looking into. I had one of my 3 kids tested with enterolabs for casein and gluten. He reacts to both. He also has 2 gluten-sensitive genes, so he definitely got 1 from me and 1 from my hubby. I know I feel better when I avoid gluten and casein. I have avoided soy because of the concerns that soy may cause thyroid and hormonal imbalances/problems, which I definitely have. In fact, I have antibodies to my own thyroid hormones. Do the saliva antibody test results show severity of reactions or just negative vs. positive antibody reactions? Are the saliva tests as accurate as the stool testing would be? Sorry for so many questions. I have to do the saliva test tomorrow. This is kind of sudden since I just found it all out. Thank you so much for your knowledgable replies. : ) Lisa in FL chugust (at) sprintpcs.com
