Hi, I'm a newbie here (approved for membership this morning and

making my inaugural post), so forgive my jumping into an old

subject. I can't seem to join anything without wanting to

immediately start talking!

I've McDougalled for over six years and definitely have lost weight.

If you go over to the McDougall discussion board, you will find many

folks losing weight on the diet as we speak. One person lost 100

pounds last year and is still going strong. The major thing is to

limit high fat plant foods and allow no added fat. There is also

a " quick weight loss " variant where you leave out refined grain and

limit fruit.

There are a few of us on the McDougall gluten-free board, but not

nearly as many as here.

There are fatfree vegan recipes galore on the web, plus you can find

cookbooks by McDougall, Ornish, etc.

If you want any tips on eliminating fat from recipes, just ask. One

I'll volunteer. You don't need oil in order to saute ingredients. A

little water, veggie broth, soy sauce, wine, etc. works just as

well. The only time I use oil (and the minimum possible -- you often

can use much less than a recipe says) is for sauteing hot peppers.

The essences in them seem to be fat soluble, not water soluble, so

you get a markedly better flavor that way.

There are health reasons to limit fat as well, which anyone

interested can explore on the McDougall web site or in any of his

books. I don't want to proselytize and annoy you all on my first

post. Just letting you know of the resources available ... read or

not, believe or not, it's up to you all.

Glad to be here,

DianeR

PS I hope to learn a lot from everyone. I've only been going gluten-

free for two weeks ...
