Guest guest
Hello friends, I have found my way here because I went on an elimination diet during the summer (with the guidance of a naturopath) and discovered sensitivities to gluten, corn, and egg. I already knew I had problems with dairy--eating it always comes with the price of a lot of mucous production and, quite often, a sinus infection. I have mild rheumatoid arthritis which improves when I keep the allergens out of my system. I'm having trouble doing that! For most of my adult life, I've been a whole foods eater so I don't see why I am struggling so to make the adjustments I want and need to make. Intellectually, it seems fairly simple, but I have no one in my life who eats as I wish to. I've thought about starting a gf dining club in my area, sharing meals with others who are on this path. Maybe the naturopath could hook me up with some of his other patients (by distributing a flyer). That would be great! Also, I'm aware that PLANNING is a huge piece of success with this. You've got to have alternative food items available, because when you're hungry and all you see is the bad stuff, common sense goes right out the window. I would love any practical tips you could offer to help me succeed. Thanks! Sierra
Guest guest
Hi Sierra, It's totally normal to struggle in the beginning, and even periodically. It's a big change, even when you know it's for the best! And in some ways, it's grieving for a lifestyle that you have to give up. The best way to deal with temptation is to have safe foods with you. For me, it's nuts or dried fruit. I have a bag of taro chips in the car when I need to go overboard...but knowing it's there usually keeps me from needing it! There are great recipes on this site and others. There are also many cookbooks out there and I have no doubt you'll learn quickly. Where do you live?
