I won't elaborate now ... the Path of Health Community will be offering a

free teleconference on fasting, open to the general public, within a few

weeks (watch for the announcement) ... but the information below is

basically all incorrect. The point of fasting is systemic rest, and it is

substantially self-defeating to rest deeply in one area while attempting to

go full speed ahead in others. Yes, people do this, but the results aren't

even in the same league.

As for muscle mass, most of what people nowadays call " muscle " mass is

actually watery brine and other gunk stored in and on the muscles. Just look

at photos of very muscular people today, vs. the same about 3 generations

back. The muscles barely look like they belong to the same species, but you

have to see them side by side to " get it " . The point here is that the first

loss of " muscle " mass is actually a cleansing of water weight and gunk.

We begin to lose muscle mass when we cease physical activity ... NOT when we

cease eating. The two are almost completely unrelated. As I've said before,

if this were not the case, you can bet your bottom dollar that all the body

builders would be in the kitchen rather than in the gym!!

The so-called " Master Cleanse " is destructive and unproductive ... which is

why we can go all over the Internet and read about people who are doing it

again, and again, and again. At some point, you'd think it would work!!!

As I said, more coming, in another format.

Best,

Elchanan

On the right fast you can still exercise and then you DON'T lose muscle

mass. Also, I would say that in 7 days no major muscle will be lost. That is

more of a concern for very long fasts. But master cleansing or 1+ gallon of

fresh juice a day fasting? You can work out pretty hard and not lose muscle.

But Joe's right that it's not true nobody does lose muscle on super long

sedentary fasts.
