Guest guest
Hi Caron, I've thought a bit about how to respond ... how far to go in what I say. I decided to say what I truly believe ... and as usual, some may not like it and it may not seem " politically correct " this month. So be it. To a great extent, thinking itself is something that must be learned and can be taught. What I'm really saying, at the core, is that I observe a remarkably small number of adults these days who were taught to think clearly along the way. And I observe almost no young people being so taught .... only in the fairly elite private schools and by a handful of individual teachers here and there. As a result, there is a widespread inability to comprehend cause-and-effect relationships in general, and a correspondingly widespread inability to perceive certain distinctions clearly, to express clearly ... in accordance with long-established standards for communication, not standards of the moment. Applying these thoughts to the subject matter at hand, there is a Great Divide. On one side lie almost all forms of treatment ... any concoction of the human forebrain intended to alter the body's own, natural course for cleansing, restoring, and replenishing itself. Collectively, I call such approaches the " medical model " , for they all embrace some mechanism(s) intended to control Nature, often without comprehending it well. Yet without such a comprehension, there can be no understanding of cause-and-effect, and in fact what we observe is an almost endless discussion about and attack upon symptoms, as if these symptoms had caused themselves. We all possess the capacity to distinguish cause from effect, problem from symptom, as you suggest. And when, one by one, we make this shift--in our thinking, our faith (belief system), and our comprehension, then we learn to allow health to emerge, rather than trying to create health. I call this " creating health from the inside, out " . But really, it is more an act of allowing than of creating, in many respects. We make choices in alignment with our design in Nature, and our system produces the vitality and well-being we seek. I call this the " health model " . (This nomenclature is not of my creation.) People who believe that eating raw foods cures disease still think and live within the former, medical model. They do not comprehend that what they have stopped eating--removal of the cause--is primarily responsible for the " cures " they perceive. For years, they speak about food, rather than about the totality of health. And one day, if and when something " goes wrong " , then they do not sit poised, either mentally or in their faith (their beliefs about how Nature works), to handle those challenges with ease and grace. What can go wrong? Perhaps nothing. Perhaps an accident, something during a fast, or something involving a family member or friend. The point is that the preparation lies in one's belief system and in one's comprehension and thinking, not in the food. Hope this helps clarify ... (WAS: Shopping for diagnoses, medical model) - Elchanan >As for those who say they " cured " this or that, they simply do not understand what actually happened, they have not made the paradigm shift. But not making the paradigm shift does not prevent one from enjoying the benefits of RF. The problems arise later, when something goes wrong and they lack the perspective to deal with it easily. I've seen this happen repeatedly. Do you mean that the problems arise because of a lack of understanding about symptoms and causes? Or because of a lack of knowledge of raw foods and how we should be eating, and health in general (ie, the other facets of health)? I've got a few thoughts buzzing around here, having trouble articulating them. Caron
