Guest guest
Hi Laurie and Caron, I am an adoptive mother to a girl from China. There are plenty of lists in the adoption world where breastfeeding is brought up. I've never heard about it (on these lists) being used for a source of nutrition, but for reasons of attachment. I've read about drugs being used to lactate, and I'm not going there for our next child, as we are in the process for a second adoption. I have NO impulse or desire to breastfeed. I never did. So, I'm interested in alternative ways to feed a baby under age two. As I understand it, mother's milk is catered to the needs of that baby and changes in nutritional composition from morning to noon to night. So, even if the option to buy milk from other mothers was there, I'm not convinced it is the best way to go. I tend to think my best option is to get the best raw foods into her. Also, my daughter had no interest in a breast by the time she was with us at 10.5 months. Her tastes and instincts were well perverted from her life in the orphanage. They fed her a Chinese formula with the top ingredient being sugar, the second, milk sugar, and they suggested adding ...sugar. They fed the babies steamed eggs, and congee, a rice porridge. She would not eat ANY fruits or veggies, raw or cooked until she was three. And, it took many a " battle " at the table. She is now a mango, cantelope, and banana lover. I do remain open-minded about the topic and wish to learn much more. However, it has been difficult to bring this topic up in the raw world since few people are in the same situation. There is another parent on this list with a child from China, but both her daughter and mine are well past the breastfeeding stage. This is a topic I could go on and on and on about. I need to start a list for raw adoptive parents, or something. Janet rawfood , " Laurie Swanson " <laurie wrote: That's really interesting, Caron. This topic has come up before on other raw boards and no one has ever mentioned the possibility of an adoptive mother lactating. How great. I can see that you will have a lot to contribute when you're ready (of course, you already do contribute, as well)! I -really- want to get the word out, and let people know that there are other options than what is forcefed to them by advertising, but first I need to get my own health back on track, or I'd burn out in minutes ;o) Caron
