Guest guest
Oh my gosh, Caron, I had no idea (since I don't have any kids of my own, and none really in my life right now)! Chocolate? Wow. And the other combos--yes, gross! I was sad to overhear a conversation recently between two women at Costco (big discount warehouse store in the US)... " That's a really good (infant) formula--we use it with my grandson... " " Oh, really? Thanks. " I'm just so out of it when it comes to kids, and when I do get close to any of it, I'm so amazed and sad. Maybe in the future you'll be one of the ones who can help get this message out! :-) Laurie rawfood , " Caron " <carongroups wrote: hehe I discovered this when I was looking at baby foods in the shops after > my boy was born (not that I intended to buy the packaged stuff, I wanted to > know what to make at home). Maybe in the future you'll be one of the ones who can help get this message out! :-) I've never used formula with my boy, so have no idea about any of them. Well, other than what I see on tv, not that I watch much. I did see an ad recently that said we all need to feed our toddlers formula, because apparently cows milk isn't good for them - the great part was that the " mum " advertising was an animal of some sort (a teddy bear?), and said she'd weaned at 12 months to put the kid on formula! Unfortunately, I'm too outspoken to be part of the ABA counselour team, and have had too many horrible experiences with the local " health care " system to want to work with them, but that's something I need to deal with. I do talk to mums when I can, and let them know where they can find information, but it seems we're not supposed to be " pushy " in case we make them feel guilty for their choice not to breastfeed. Whatever a person's decision is, whether it's what to feed their children, or what colour to dye their hair, that's their decision, I'm not going to knock it. It just bugs me that people who -know- they're making a less-than-healthy choice, try to convince others to make the same choice, to make them feel better about their decision. They try to block information that might help those who WANT to make the best choice - such as new mothers who don't have support to breastfeed - or those who are unaware that there is a better choice, such as new mothers who have only seen formula being advertised on tv, or sold in stores (we can't exactly sell breastmilk at the moment). If information was more readily available, that grandmother would know (if she's the baby's carer, as it sounds she might be), that relactation is an option, even for mothers whose children are grown. It takes effort, granted, but it can be done. Relactation in a mother with an infant, who didn't " succeed " with breastfeeding her newborn, or had to stop due to some medication, is even easier. Even adoptive mothers, who have never been pregnant, can lactate to feed their child. It's called adoptive lactation, as opposed to relactation. I -really- want to get the word out, and let people know that there are other options than what is forcefed to them by advertising, but first I need to get my own health back on track, or I'd burn out in minutes ;o) Caron
