Guest guest
Generally corn is fed to the cows to help get them through the winter. We did the same for our goats. It puts some weight on them, helping to insulate them from the cold. Corn is also fed to cows prior to slaughtering. It fattens them up and makes the meat more tender and taste better. Left to their own devices, cows will eat corn if they can get to it. Ask any cattleman that has had their fences torn down by cows to get into the corn field, or in the feed room of the barn. Guest guest
yuk, I have a hard time with the visuals of what Janet describes from the book " fast food nation " . yuk. I DON'T LIKE THINKING ABOUT IT. I really wish that the topic would be covered in high school to begin students on an educational journey to the reality of the meat they eat. Perhaps that would have a bigger impact on society as a whole? I don't know if I want to read the book. NOR do I like the idea of how poor farm animals are killed for food. As an animal lover it hurts me to see any animal suffer. Even to educate myself, I can't watch those types of things. I hate that it happens, I hate that there are people in this world that would subject any animal to this type of cruelty. Kinda seems like the " mad cow disease " might be a way of God saying " stop doing this " . I don't know. I just wish there were a better way of getting those people to do those type things. I don't know that there is a big enough movement to get farmers to change their ways of killing the poor animals. It's all about money. Jeannie your time is the most cherished gift of all, tomorrow is promised to no one. My understanding that feeding the cattle this kind of diet is what is what causes mad cow disease. It is a totally inappropriate and unhealthy diet for a cow.
