Elchanan,

I understand that now about ginger, but 10 years ago, I knew

nothing about the 80 10 10 diet or the raw foods diet. I was on a

strict macrobiotic diet, cooking 3 nutritious (what I thought was

nutritious) meals a day and working VERY HARD at it! I had a

macrobiotic counselor, who wrote several books about how the

macrobiotics way of life prevents and even cures cancer! I trusted

Denny WAxman immensely, so when he told me that ginger help me immensely

and would increase my health, of course, I believed him.

I started MY path of health when I was 20 and I was a newlywed.

My husband brought home a book from the library entitled, " What's in an

orange? " The book started out talking about the orange dye that they

put on the green oranges after they are picked and how this dye seeps

right into our oranges. It then talked about how all of the chemicals

and additives that they add to our foods cause cancer and other

diseases. That book changed my life, and I started reading the

ingredients on everything in the supermarket. I stopped eating all of

the foods that contained artificial anything or any kind of

preservative, chemical, etc. I stopped eating white bleached flour;

started going to health food stores, etc.

BEfore I became pregnant with Molly, my middle child (11 years

ago), I was very tired all of the time, and I realized that I needed

some diet counseling. I started going to cooking classes for

macrobiotic meals, and that's where I met my macrobiotic counselor's

wife, Melanie Waxman. I thought that the macrobiotic diet was the

healthiest diet you could be on, and I really believed that I was doing

the best thing that I could for my health. For about 2 years, I felt so

much better and so much more energetic. I gave up my coffee

completely!! However, when I was pregnant, I started having cravings

for red meat - for steak and hamburgers. My counselor told me that I

SHOULD give in to my cravings and eat the meat, since the " baby "

probably needs the meat. AFter I gave birth, I went back to eating a

real macrobiotic diet and felt pretty good for another couple of years.

However, I wasn't feeling very energetic when Janet told me about the

Path of Health group.(Thanks Janet :). So I joined and was very

skeptical at first, since Denny Waxman had told me that raw foods should

be avoided completely - even salads! He said that the body can't get

the nutrients out of the raw foods. Everything about the raw foods diet

was completely the opposite of the macrobiotic diet that I was following

for 11 years! I was even told to put my apples in boiling water for at

least a minute before eating them!

I was just reading in Victoria's book how watercress is toxic. It's

funny, but all of our cooking classes talked about how watercress gives

us so much strength, and it is one of the healthiest foods that we could

eat!!! And I loved watercress, so I ate it whenever I could find it in

the health food store! Now I avoid it like the plague!

I am definitely a believer of the 80 10 10 diet now, and I have

never felt more energetic or healthier, since I've started it.

Elchanan, I have another question, though. I know that you

wrote to me saying that I would be fine (with getting all of my B

vitamins) as long as I ate enough greens. My question is: how much is

enough? I eat about 1/2 head of red leaf lettuce or romainne lettuce a

day. I'm not sure that's adequate, since you had said that you had a

LARGE head of lettuce as part of your dinner on one specific day when

you were describing your diet.

Thanks so much for your comments and information!!! It is very

appreciated! This way of life is all very new to me (just since March)!!

Hi Lynne,

My backlog cleanup continues, and I find this post from you.

First, thank you for your kind comments! (Last paragraph)

Second, is there something here you wish me to respond to? If yes, then

please reduce it to a sentence or two. If not, then mission accomplished!

Best,

Elchanan
