Craving Protein as an Oxymoron' Origin of the Food Pyramid; Mythology of Protein (WAS: Building Lean Tissue on a RF Diet (WAS: Working Out)

Hi Caroline and all,

The idea of " complete protein " is a myth, some science that just plain went

the wrong way and was later corrected. Unfortunately the popular press and

marketers sort of " never noticed " the correction.

If you read The China Study CAREFULLY, you'll discover that protein

poisoning is at the heart of almost all modern " diseases " . It's the fat that

overloads the circulatory system etc., but it's the protein that leaches all

the alkaline minerals right out of the system, causes hyperacidity, and

eventually triggers many of the " big breakdowns " . We need a VERY small

quantity of UNDAMAGED (as, unheated) protein, and there is a MASSIVE amount

of research on this, from almost every country in the world that sponsors an

Olympic team. There are billions at stake ... this is one case where the

incentive actually supports " getting it right " .

The protein mythology in which we presently live originated in the US circa

1947. The Norwegian government sponsored a study through the 1930s and

1940s, tracking the relationship between meat consumption and death. The two

tracked in parallel lines. But that was not the interesting part. During WW

II, when rationing was in effect, both lines dropped precipitously on the

graph. Then, in 1946, the MOMENT rationing was lifted, consumption of meat

and death both shot up ... THERE WAS NOT EVEN A DELAY!!!

Upon publication of this study, the U.S. food industry panicked, huddled,

and descended upon Washington. They proposed something " wonderful " ... they

would get behind (sponsor, pay for) publication of all sorts of educational

materials about nutrition, to be disseminated and taught in every public

school in America ... IF the FDA would, in turn, sponsor their new

concoction ... THE FOOD PYRAMID!!!

Yes, folks that's how it came to exist ... and with it the entire protein

mythology with which we presently live. Before 1946, nada. After 1947,

protein, protein, protein ... and ALL from animal sources. And the health of

Americans has descended continually from that day to this. This decline in

health began in earnest BEFORE the explosions in fat and then carbohydrate

consumption that are so familiar to us all today.

As I wrote previously, even the U.S. government ... and the U.S. Olympic

Team, and the International Olympic Committee, and ON and ON and ON ... ALL

agree that there is NO benefit from increasing the PERCENT of protein in

one's diet as one increases one's level of physical activity ... and

regardless of the type of activity (running, weight-lifting, etc.) There is

NO substantive disagreement on this in the scientific community. The ONLY

disagreement is in the popular press, the marketing community, and all the

millions upon millions of people ... like you ... who have been so

thoroughly " educated " about this that you almost cannot conceive of the

world any other way.

The world is otherwise ... this is one of those rare occasions when our

health interest coincides with the interest of at least a portion of big

business ... the sports community. I realize that most in the sports

community still buy into the mythology ... but NOT those at the top, not the

scientists and the Olympic Committees and such.

I wrote earlier today that the idea of a " protein craving " is an oxymoron

.... it really cannot exist.

There is ONE diagnosis in the medical world (and a couple of add-ons)

specifically designed to describe a systemic protein deficiency. ONE. That

diagnosis is called " Kwashiorkor " , created in Africa in 1932. Over time, it

was realized that even in this instance, the " protein deficiency " was

actually starvation ... the people were literally starving to death. And to

this day the recommended therapy for a Kwashiorkor diagnosis is

CARBOHYDRATE!!!!! Why? Because your system cannot process protein

constructively until and unless it first has fuel.

Folks, one of the things I finally had to recognize is that almost

everything I ever learned about almost every topic I ever studied was just

plain wrong. In a sense, the biggest obstacle on many people's journey into

health is nothing more or less than the unlearning of almost everything ...

about almost everything.

If you increase your activity level, or if you are just very active, then as

you transition to a RF diet, particularly if you choose a high-fruit

version, then you will almost certainly undereat ... and crave like crazy at

some point. Here is a quick tip: Within an hour following physical activity,

eat a full-sized fruit meal, preferably a monomeal or at least something

simple, and preferably SWEET fruits ... bananas are aces here. This

difference you can make in your life by implementing this ONE suggesting

often astounds people ... and you'll likely notice at least some effect

within a day or two. (Idea courtesy of Dr. Doug Graham, lifelong champion

athlete and trainer/teacher to various professional athletes. Doug was on

the U.S. gymnastics team nearly 30 years ago. He really does know some

things in this area ... MANY things ... that most do not know.)

Best to all,

Elchanan

RE: [Raw Food] Building Lean Tissue on a RF Diet (WAS: Working Out)

Hello

I have a raw resource book that I recently purchased and it says that

spirulina is a good source of " complete protein " . I'm not quite sure what

that means, but I was considering getting some for my morning shakes. I do

have to admit, I don't know much about protein yet, haven't gotten to look

into it (which is why I haven't purchased it yet LOL!!!) . Any thoughts??

That's very interesting, thanks for sharing that information. What I find

amusing is how many variations of the food pyramid I've seen in recent

years.

I've found this to be true to a certain extend, except the basic biology,

biochemistry and physiology facts I learned - so many times during my first

2 years of uni, I questioned everything I knew about health and diet,

because of things I learned during those classes, and I'm finding out now

that my weird ideas were actually right on track. Unfortunately, the

lectures and classwork was written to support popular theories about health

and diet, and so the things I'd learned that were erronous were reinforced,

delaying my epiphany by 8 years.

The food pyramid was officially modified recently. Increased: fruits and

vegetables. Decreased: pretty much everything else. Why? We have the sickest

population in known human history, excluding times of plague, warfare, and

acts of Nature.
