Hi Belinda, wonderful question! Short answer: From the point of view of Dr.

Doug Graham, originator, of 80/10/10, no. From my point of view, no. From

other points of view, I am clueless. :)

The 80/10/10 idea MIN 80% of calories from carbs/simple sugars, MAX 10% of

calories each from proteins and fats) subsumes far more than the numbers

suggest. This approach to diet arises within the context of a deeply held

faith in Nature's design, that whenever we give ourselves what we require,

our needs are met. This rings equally true with regard to foods, activity,

rest, relationships, knowledge... in literally every area of our lives,

whenever we pursue that which cleanses, restores, and uplifts us, we

experience health, vitality, well-being, joy, etc.

We embrace a fundamental paradigm shift in the way we comprehend symptoms.

We see symptoms as our friend...symptoms ARE our body's response to

conditions we create, arising from its vast, innate intelligence. And

symptoms ARE messages from within...they are a primary means whereby our

subconscious mind attempts to communicate to our conscious awareness.

If we adopt this perceptual system, then we easily and obviously perceive

any attempt to kill, suppress, " manage " , or otherwise modify symptoms (with

exceptions, such as in the presence of trauma) constitute a direct use of

force upon and a direct attack against ourselves.

Beneath all this lies a willingness to distinguish problems from symptoms,

to genuinely and openly embrace cause-and-effect. Almost all treatments

(yes, I acknowledge exceptions) attack our symptoms...in other words, almost

all treatments, whether by supplementation or otherwise, constitute violent

assaults upon our own being and well-being.

Beneath this lies a profound sense of self-love and self-care. For no

creature, filled with a genuine love for itself and a genuine desire to care

for itself in the very best of ways, would ever consciously and willingly

choose to launch an assault upon itself.

So that's not only a response to your wonderful question, Belinda, but also

some of the beliefs and the thinking behind that response. We choose to

consume only that which our bodies recognize as food, and we observe our

bodies' symptoms as our first and primary guide to help us distinguish what

constitutes food and what, foreign matter that must be expelled.

This brings us great simplicity in many ways. For example, eschewing the

idea of treatment of symptoms reduces the entire conversation about garlic

to a nonevent for us...since we are treating nothing, none of the supposedly

wonderful therapeutic properties of garlic interests us, and in fact,

consumption of garlic in an attempt to benefit from such properties

constitutes an attack upon ourselves.

So in summary, we choose:

1. Faith in Nature's design.

2. Self-love.

3. Recognition of cause-and-effect, and comprehension of symptoms as

effects.

4. Acceptance, appreciation, and a sense of curiosity toward all symptoms.

5. Simplicity, ease, and graceful living.

6. Foods only as our foods ... no " treatments " or " therapeutics " of any

kind.

Hope this answers your question a bit. For more information, I invite you

[Raw Food] 80-10-10 diet

For those that follow the 80-10-10 way of eating, do you supplement

your diet with vitamins and minerals? Do any of the rest of the raw

feeders supplement with vitamins and minerals?
