Guest guest
Most of you may already know this but I thought I would pass it along as I just discovered it myself. We are part of an organic farm coop. We share our membership with another family. So every other week we get a full pickup of food. When the harvest is good I can fill one large cooler and and half of another cooler with what we are allotted. Initially, we were loosing a lot of our greens. Then I bought a salad spinner. I found if I washed all of the more perishable greens immediately (lettuces mostly) and spun them in the salad spinner they would remain fresh and crispy for 10-12 days. I stored them in the spinner in the spinning basket with the lid on. I know that this is not the best way to eat greens, so many days after they have been picked. However, when you compare it to supermarkets where they have been picked and shipped and stored for who knows how long it is much better. So next year when the coop starts, I plan to have at least 3 salad spinners on hand.
