Guest guest
Hey Em, Yeah, you've got the idea for wheat grass. I was doing it for a bit, but had some kind of reaction to it where i got a rash on my face and under my eyes got dark.. pretty weird. So I discontinued. I'm trying oat grass now, but haven't had a harvest yet. If you want really nutritional grass, I highly suggest reading Sea Energy Agriculture by by Dr. Murray. If you're still a student you can easily get it through your library's interlibrary loan office, if it doesn't already have a copy. The thing about minerals is that they are not available for absorption, or muuuuch less readily so, in animals, or at least mammals, unless they are linked up with an organic component. Hence the term " bioavailable " . The *only* organisms capable of " fixing " minerals in this way are plants, hence the large importance of them in our diet, and the reason for mass malnutrition in those who do not ingest enough or have become less capable of digesting and absorbing them. This is, I think, still a problem even for people like this group who eat nothing but plants, as most soils today are deficient, and thus grow deficient plants. Farmers, both organic and conventional as far as I'm aware, at least at large, add back only a handful of minerals to the soil each season, when there are 90+ minerals needed by the human body. Many of these are trace minerals, but as I'm sure you're aware, if you don't even have a trace of these minerals, you're not in good shape. Anyway, about grass: they are the only *known* plant (so I'm not admitting they are the only one) capable of picking up ALL 90+ minerals. But if you were to give the entire ragne of minerals to a variety of plants, and eat them, you'd get all the minerals as well. So, growing grass seems to be a very good way of replenishing our bodies with all of these minerals. Oh, and all these minerals come from ocean water, hence my recommending the book. If you give it a shot, let me know, I'd love to hear what you think.
