Hi everyone,

Here is a cross-post from PathOfHealth (post #1433), entitled " Thou Shalt

Not Kill " . Seems germane here. We vote with every penny we spend ... we send

a message that says, " Make more of this " . And every such message implies

" ...and less of that. "

We must step up and pay for the world in which we wish to live, in my

opinion.

Greetings Darlene,

I understand that there is considerable controversy over this point. I offer

just this:

I am aware of no single year, nor even a single day, throughout recorded

human history when soldiers have not marched, executions have not been

carried out, murders have not been committed. My own sense is that our

species, taken as a group at least, lacks the capacity to distinguish

between killing some things and killing everything, and including one

another.

The laws given were given long ago; they form for us a MINIMUM standard of

behavior. But if we are indeed created in the divine image, then we possess

the capacity to rise far beyond any minimum standard we are given. For

example, we possess the capacity to sanctify all life.

A personal experience: Once I was visiting a friend for a few days. At one

point, an army of ants were attacking something on the kitchen floor. My

friend's " normal " habit would have been to annihilate those ants with a

spray or the like. But she knew of and respected my beliefs,. and asked me

for an alternative. I picked up a piece of paper, brushed whatever it was

the ants were feeding upon out the door. The ants were gone from the kitchen

within seconds.

My point here is simply this: By choosing to adopt a certain mindset about

all life, such a solution " came to me " quite naturally, without hesitation.

In contrast, the same solution might never have occurred to my friend, not

because she is any less capable than I, but only because she was looking

through a different lens, through the filter of a different belief.

Speaking only for myself, I have adopted,. as an article of my own faith,

that no creature need die in order that I may live. This belief has made it

ever so easy, at least for me, to distinguish between buying organically

produced products and all other products; to become vegan in every area of

my life; etc.

I am not saying that any of these choices on my part are " right " in any way.

I'm only sharing my own experience WRT my belief about the sanctity of life.

Best to all,

Elchanan

Re: [Raw Food] Organic or better?

Caron,

You wrote:

" Yes it costs a lot, but my alternatives include being on medication for the

rest of my life and/or suffering insane amounts of pain and discomfort

and/or surgery "

But there are those of us that would love to buy all organic but literally

can no afford to. I can splurge on organic stuff like on pay day but other

days I have to really think hard.....do I want to pay $3.00 for a celery,

$2.00 for a bunch of radishes or do I want to pay $99cents for a celery and

2/$1.00 for a bunch of radishes. If I buy non organic I can buy more

vegetables and fruits. If I buy organics then the salad for tonight will be

poor. LoL. Money can only stretch so far if you have limited funds.

I bet you have a lovely farm. It takes a lot of dedication.

Jeannie
