Guest guest
" Used to " and " acclimated to " are euphemisms for " no longer has the capacity to respond in the presence of " . Let me illustrate with an almost universal (unfortunately) example: Infants nowadays often receive little or no breast milk, and even those who are breast fed for awhile are typically weaned very young. Further, their mothers typically consume a poor diet, so even the breast milk is of mediocre to poor quality. As a result, they tend to generate the most awful poop (and urine) one might imagine, sticky, smelly, horrible stuff that should never come out of any species of animal. Then, after awhile, this condition often seems to ameliorate somewhat, perhaps even entirely. The doctors tell us that the baby has acclimated to the " normal " diet. But what has actually occurred is terribly insidious: the baby's vitality, its capacity to respond, has become sufficiently diminished that its system is no longer capable of that level of response. And from that time forward, it's body shall be forever weakened and filled with shit, quite literally . until such time as that person happens to stumble into a much healthier way of eating. So " acclimated " or " became used to " are not necessarily " good things " . Well, I don't know the answer as to why the bean do not seem to cause me discomfort (most of the time). I have eaten beans of all kinds all my life. I always figured my body was just use to them.
