Guest guest
Dear Dr. Dhillon, Honestly, I find it difficult to comprehend your response. If pharmaceutical companies want out total cholesterol at 300, and I am saying 100, what's wrong with that? The point is that the whole medical/pharmaceutical industry has made this big deal about LDL vs. HDL. But in a genuinely healthy human, this issue vanishes. One cannot achieve and sustain a TOTAL cholesterol level in the vicinity of 100 without having a superb balance between LDL and HDL. The one implies the other. I agree that your friend/patient/whatever is improved. I am thrilled that he is off medication. In a medical model world, I realize that is held to be a great achievement. But in a health model world, it is merely a step along the path of health. I do not agree that he has become a paragon of health. Abundant research shows that a total cholesterol level less than 150 more or less assures freedom from heart disease. Yet the government, industry, etc. all teach 200. Well, your friend is indeed below 200. But at 180, he is still WELL at risk for heart disease. And that 150 number has ONLY to do with heart disease ... NOT with creating health. Again, a truly healthy human has a TOTAL cholesterol level in the vicinity of 100, perhaps just a tad higher (as 110 or the like). Best, Elchanan _____ rawfood [rawfood ] On Behalf Of Dr. S.S. First of all his HDL has gone up but the bad LDL is down. HIs triglycerides are down. He is off medication. Secondly your number is very misleading and that's what pharmaceutical companies want. It's this kind of shallow knowledge and scare which is unhealthy. You know in 1980s even 300 was considered normal. But thanks anyway.
