Someone posted that lemons were alkaline producing. I would have guessed

lemons to be acidic.

i think everyone says this, i know i did too -- the lemon is acid in the

kitchen, on the tongue -- however, the chemical consituents of the fruit are

combined in such a way that after digestion and assimilation into the body the

lemon leaves " ash " or " residue " that is alkalizing to the body -- in other

words, what it leaves behind for your body to work with is alkalizing

(sometimes you hear someone say to picture the ash of a cigarette that

burned in the ash tray -- maybe not the best way to picture it, but it does

give

you the before and after idea)

when i first tried testing my pH, i couldn't get off the lowest color -- i

tried the lemon -- i had one every morning upon arising for weeks and weeks

you can just cut the rind off it on a cutting board and plop it in the

blender with a big splash of distilled water, run the blender on a low speed to

crush the juice out, then pour through a seive and this way you'll get some of

the beneficial white spongy pectin-containing membranes (as a little foam)

i once read that this white portion of the lemon skin helps it be even more

alkalizing -- there is a name for the white portion of the rind -- it's name

is " albedo "

they say use only lemon for the purpose of alkalizing (not some other

citrus) and also NO SUGAR is very important -- sugar will completely destroy

the

effect of the lemon leaving alkalizing " ash " in the body

i found it helped, but not a great deal and also found that it does take

quite a number of days for lemon to build up and change your pH much

i was already trying to alkalize by eating only alkalizing foods, so i knew

my diet and kept it constant when i added a daily morning lemon & water, but

still, i couldn't get even close to acceptable -- the lemon might work pretty

good in a different body of course and it seems a very natural way to do it

-- by using the natural fruity lemon on an empty stomach first thing every

morning you're not making your acid/alkaline balance jump around erratically --

your pH balance effects all the many parts of your functioning body --

trying to bump whatever level you already have might be the friendliest way to

treat your body

i've heard there could be conditions where doing it quickly is advisable --

from what i read, there's no great lasting harm from sudden body pH level

changes -- it sounded like you might throw this or that homeostatic functioning

slightly off or even be slightly out of sorts somehow, maybe not even so much

as it would come to your awareness for the most part

but mine was so rock bottom acidic that i finally did find one product

really goes in and alkalizes faster than most -- but you can only use it short

term, and occasionally, that's the recommendation on the container, and

apparently because it has a mix of licorice root -- licorice supplements can

dangerous if you overdo or build it up inside

i never tried to find licorice with stevia, but if i remember correctly i

once heard that as one suggestion if you're looking for mildly alkalizing

snacks to add to your diet (again, scratch sugar)

incidentally just recently i picked up 2 different brands of pH test paper

and plastic pH test strips at a popular store and the if i test with both at

the same time, they give different readings almost a full, whole point away --

one has to be wrong -- it could be they are BOTH wrong

Elchanan recommended here that your test are readable with 0.2 increments --

the smallest increments i ever saw available anywhere are 0.5 increments --

i get mine at a fairly busy store, they sell out off the shelf and they get

new shipments in all the time, i know -- of course these could be warehoused

for long periods -- as a matter of fact many, many products in every area of

life are " old " -- when labor costs are less, manufacturers produce great

quanitites -- then, when people are getting paid more some years ahead, the

store

prices are higher and so years later, they have the items to sell at the

newer prices but they were produced, in some cases, at almost nothing compared

to current manufacturing costs -- actually some kinds of products out there

can be manufactured and kept stored " bulk " quantities and packaged up for sale

in the latest recognizable packages, but of course, that's more common with

durable and " non-perishable " items like quilts or blankets, even things like

plain spring jackets or bermuda shorts (standard styles will come back from

decade to decade)

i always read that an acid body PUTS ON fat into the fat cells and alkaline

helped you stay normal -- lately i've been hearing the reverse of this, i.e.

that acid help take away fats out of the cells (since fatty acids are " acids "

it seems to me like acid conditions would be a signal for fat cells to

enlarge with more fatty acid, and it's an acknowledge fact that most people's

fat

cells never increase in number, they add fat merely by each fat cell

increasing in size)

i DO KNOW from personal proprioception, lol : you feel a lot better and do

a lot better throughout the days if you try to keep towards the recommended

or " acceptable " pH readings

now that i've been testing for periods at a time, i've learned that you can

go through highs and lows -- a few days of being really low acidy pH can

happen -- something gets set in motion that takes brings my acidity back -- if

this happens and a week goes by you can get keeping that undesirable level just

because that begin to feel right and without realizing it you choose foods

that keep it there -- so i do like to do a solid week or two every now and then

but usually, i can tell from energy levels and what happens after food is

taken in when i'm losing my better alkaline/acid tendencies -- if i suspect

this, i make sure to do lemons and things, i don't always feel i have to have

test strip readings as the only way to know what diets and activities to

involve myself with

but the biggest non-strip-test indication is the overall look of the person

in the mirror when i first walk into the bathroom at any given time

there's just something i can see visually in my overall appearance when i'm

NOT excessively acid

so that just goes to prove that even an old jalopy like me can be a lemon

AND a cream puff -- all in all it's nicer driving off the lot that way, i found

out, too
