Guest guest
Hi Dobby, If a person were to do as you describe, then that person would have taken up fasting while holding a profound misunderstanding of fasting. Fasting is an act of faith ... a returning of the " controls " back to our system. Fasting is a deep form of rest. Deep, retrospective cleansing and restoration of the body occur during periods of relative or comparative rest. To fast in terms of diet while maintaining a full load of activity as you describe would be working directly against one's own system. On one hand, one's choices about eating would effect the returning of the controls, as above. Yet at the same time, one's choice to remain active would be grabbing back the controls away from one's system. This can be done, but the results, in the long term, are not likely to be uplifting. The human body burns through structured, stored fat whenever our expenditure of energy exceeds the available energy in the fuel we eat. During fasting, after the third day or so for most people, energy intake drops to zero, and fat-burning ensues. Similarly, when we become physically active, we are not eating. Our body draws upon our present supply of blood sugar, then reaches for reserves. The first reserve is our glycogen, stored primarily in our outer muscles and our liver. As the body begins to draw down this reserve, to extend the life of that reserve, the body also begins to draw from its supply of stored, structured fat. Again, fat burning ensues. But our system ... no system ... is designed to rest and be active at the same time. If you wish to learn a bit more about fasting, we have two free audio programs: Trusting Nature's Design, available at http://www.pathofhealth.org/Programs <http://www.pathofhealth.org/Programs & Events/Fasting/TrustingNature'sDesign- Fasting--Aug.10.2006CE--PathOfHealth.mp3> & Events/Fasting/TrustingNature'sDesign-Fasting--Aug.10.2006CE--PathOfHealth. mp3 and Monoeating, Fasting, and Self-Love, available at <http://www.pathofhealth.org/Programs & Events/Fasting/MonoeatingFasting & Self- Love--Sep.13.2006CE--PathOfHealth.mp3> http://www.pathofhealth.org/Programs & Events/Fasting/MonoeatingFasting & Self-L ove--Sep.13.2006CE--PathOfHealth.mp3 Hope this helps! But I got to thinking about something someone on here said in one post or another and now I got a question. If a person was 100 pounds over weight, and they went on a water fast, and kept working out at the gym. Would their body use up the reserves or would they lose lean muscle mass and keep the fat? In other words, what does it take to force the body to use its reserve fat and keep the good stuff? Just wonderin......and I realize this is a long question to really answer.... By the way, I am enjoying the 811 book! Very informative!
