Guest guest
I'm supposing you've heard of the California State legislation about raw almonds. So.... where else do raw almonds come from? I mean, if people who eat raw almonds will continue to buy raw almonds from wherever, this can hurt the California industry. So... where else do organic raw almonds come from? Yes, it will cost us more. I do not respond to on-line petitions because research has shown that they are generally email address harvesting programs. I urge you to write to your congressman and/or your senator, to indicate your intention to continue to buy raw organic almonds from wherever they are available. Indicate that you believe that raw almonds are an important part of your nutritional program, and that you sincerely hope that your state will not follow the California ban against un-pasteurized almonds. What does this amount to? A " threat " of *boycott*. If we boycott California products.... could be all of them, even Disneyland or Fisherman's Wharf, or the *entire state* and all that it has, does, and/or produces.... there might be a reconsideration. (there was, as I understand it, not too long ago, a successful boycott of the entire State of Colorado a few years back, over a political issue, which has since been resolved. A bit longer ago, there was a successful lettuce boycott of California... you may be too young to recall that one) Are there enough of us? I don't know.... but... what *are* you going to do when there are no raw California almonds (Edgar Cayce said we should eat 3 raw almonds a day... I probably do better than that on a good day ... if you are not 80/10/10, almonds probably show up in your food at least weekly. 80/10/10 people??? will you support us anyway and at least continue to not buy almonds from California? Tommie? your delicious cheeze is in jeopardy!) Boycotts do work, but the powers that be have to understand that they are happening. (I have experienced something interesting right on my block -- about 10 years ago, the local deli (outside of New York City, read " convenience store " ) was bought by a family from X country. At first, when you would go in there, and stand in line to buy whatever, if someone from X country came in, the shopkeeper would ignore everyone in line and attend that person and have a nice long friendly conversation with that person, while the rest of us stood there suffering/fuming. One day, when it was my turn to be next, it happened, and I spoke up for my " first come-first served " " rights " -- okay, so I'm a basic American!-- and the shopkeeper told me that, if I did not like it, I could stop coming in. Nice. I stopped going in. After 7 years of my own personal boycott, I was in a hurry, and I ran in there. Surprise! The whole situation was different! someone from X country ran in and tried to butt in line and the shopkeeper told them to wait in line like everybody else! I can only imagine that I was not the only person to boycott-- otherwise, that store would be one of the " X country only " stores we have all around here) If we boycott the state of California (sorry to those of you who live there... there *are* more of us out here!) I mean, really boycott the state of California, and just forget about it, and go someplace else for vacation, and top buying California products, at the same time that we make it known to our state representatives, *and* to the governor of California that we are doing so, and for what reason, we may be able to achieve a positive result. I, myself, will be boycotting California if/once the law takes effect. My state representatives, as well as the governor of California, will receive correspondence explaining my choice. So... now I need to find out where else I can get organic almonds. Any ideas? What about you? What will you do? Margaret
Guest guest
Margaret, I've understood that petitions that don't have an original signature aren't worth anything, anyway, so I don't do online petitions no matter what they are. I have bought maybe a two pounds of almonds in the last year. I don't think my little part in a boycott would be noticed. At the rate I use them, I have a year's supply so I can easily not buy them. If you are starting a boycott, count me in!
