Spring detoxification for your body

(WTNH) _ As harmful pesticides, solvents, industrial waste, plastics,

and heavy metals such as mercury and lead are released into the

environment, they eventually build up in our bodies.

Information provided by our guest

This toxic load places a burden in the detoxification pathways in our

body, mainly in the liver. If these chemicals are not excreted

properly by the body, they accumulate in our fat tissue. This is

where we become at increased risk for developing neurological

conditions, hormonal imbalances, and allergies.

What to limit on a 4 week detoxification plan:

1) Limit exposure to pesticides -eat organic

2) Limit alcohol and smoking

3) Limit the use of plastics (especially when warming food in the

microwave)

4) Air fresheners

5) Chlorine in drinking and shower water.

6) Dry cleaning

All contain chemicals which are foreign to the body and contribute to

the toxic load that the liver must detoxify.

What to do on a 4 week detoxification plan:

1) Vegetable based diet, fish and complex carbohydrates

2) Sylibum marianum (common name Milk Thistle) 250 mg daily

3) Daily fiber drink from Psyllium or Flax

4) Antioxidants

5) Fish oil 3 grams daily

6) Taurine 500 mg daily

7) Sauna or sweating exercise 3 times/week

8) Water intake = 1/3 to ½ of body weight converted to ounces

This plan is a less aggressive treatment plan, unless you are being

supervised by a Doctor. It is important if you are doing this on your

own to be less aggressive. These herbs and nutrients can augment the

metabolism of pharmaceutical medications. If you are on a controlled

medication like coumadin, it is best to be supervised by a

physician. Naturopathic physicians are well trained in drug-herb and

drug-nutrient interactions.

About Naturopathic Doctors

Naturopathic physicians (N.D.) are primary care practitioners trained

in the broadest scope of naturopathic modalities. In addition to a

conventional medical curriculum the naturopathic physician is

required to complete four years training in holistic approaches

including clinical nutrition, botanical medicine, homeopathy,

acupuncture, psychology and counseling. A naturopathic physician

takes rigorous professional board exams so that he or she may be

licensed by a state or jurisdiction as a primary care general

practice physician.

Dr. Nadine Hokayem is a professional leader in science-based natural

medicine. She is unique in providing treatment that bridges both

conventional and natural medicine perspective, integrating scientific

research with the healing powers of nature. For more information,
