Some thoughts regarding surviving of fruit/veg raw lifestyle in cold climate

Hi Paule,

What country are you from? Your climate sounds very similar to mine

(Canada), so all of my organic winter produce and fruits are imported

from other countries, i.e., south US, Mexico, Central America, even

New Zealand and Israel/Palestine. These are usually very good

quality, though the local Canadian produce in the summer is definitely

much better, as you heard.

Are you not able to find any stores which import produce for the winter?

I personally wouldn't worry about apples being hard to digest, they

are a wonderful and tasty fruit with lots of enzymes and nutrition,

and if that's one of the only local fruits available I think you

should eat as many as you want whenever you want :)

The starchy veggies are a toss-up. If you want raw and that's it,

then by all means eat them raw if you enjoy it. It will still be a

lot better than eating animal products. If you want nearly-raw and

mucousless, then bake the starchy veggies and eat lots of raw greens

with it. Surely you can find lettuces, beans, onions, carrots, etc

where you are from?

And when your local berries come into season, eat as much as you can!

 

Your point is a good one though about eating raw fruits and veggies in

the North. It highlights the Eskimo, who also ate raw most of their

lives - but they were eating raw seals and whales and walrus and

things like that, for thousands of years presumably. I have read that

they were a completely healthy people until explorers introduced them

to modern methods of cooking and consumption, and then they began to

develop all the classic diseases like osteoporosis, arthritis etc.
