Guest guest
I have been drinking green smoothies for quite some time now. I have found myself with some intestinal isssues and read in Dr Walkers book that particles from these drinks can actually get stuck in pockets in the colon. Victoria Boutenka (sp?) highly recommends them. Was Dr walker's book written prior to the faster blenders and vitamix ( I do not have a vitamix by the way but a high speed blender) I highly respect both people, any thoughts here? Guest guest
Sharie, I will definitely check out those books you listed. I try to not eat a large amount of these shakes or any food. I have heard that a high content of oxalates (in foods like spinach) can combine with calcium to cause certain health conditions (kidney stones) in some people. I too once did experience the effects of too much kale and spinach (constipation). *sigh* Some people do not digest certain veggies so well. The point is, moderation, variety and portions in my opinion is a good way to take food (and most other things in life). Also, drinking plenty of water helps too. This all helps with not causing my intestines to become too congested. It is true that some do not handle certain foods so well and so it is best for every individual to listen to how their body responds to foods. We are all different. And as good as this diet is for some, it may not work for another or may require some personal tweeking. No matter what I am eating I try to keep the portions down and then I eat frequently so that I can keep my energy up. I aim to rotate the kinds of foods I eat over a few days. I strongly believe that this way the body gets a variety of nutrients and then does not get use to or clogged up with one thing. I have heard that some go all radical and eat one thing. That is not for me. I would get bored. Besides, I want to lose 10-15 lbs so variety keeps me from straying. Has anyone had trouble losing weight (fat, not muscle) with so little protein? I like my strength but I do wish to decrease my body fat percentage a little. Trying to do more raw each day, and perhaps I will boost the protein in my diet up a notch. Guest guest
Thanks Jennifer I was trying to get greens into my diet sue to oral surgery that had left me without rear grinding teeth (long story) anyway in regards to the water I am way beyond the minimum requirement of 1/2 body weight in ounces, especially days when I do not feel well. Thanks! Sharie
