Guest guest
I've just been given a baggy full of tomatillos - husked and ready for use. The friend who grew them suggested making salsa or cutting up and adding to a salad. Any suggestions for other uses? I did cut one up and we ate it just to see what it tasted like - OK but nothing too spectacular. The truth is that I didn't really notice any flavour. How can I tell if they are ripe? This friend also gave me some little wee teeny tiny purple hot peppers. She warned that they are very hot. Anyone have any experience with these? could I chop and freeze them in a little wee teeny tiny baggie for use in recipes later in the winter? My husband does not like spicy food so I'm not sure what I'll do with them. I'm sorry if I'm not supposed to cross post but it seemed the simplest way to do this Thanks Audrey
Guest guest
My sister makes a wonderful salsa with her crop of tomatillas, but I have never cooked with them before. They are one veggie I have never tried. My sister's salsa is cooked down and is lovely. Green salsa is great. ~ PT ~ , " Audrey Z Burrows " <quiltbug wrote: > > I've just been given a baggy full of tomatillos - husked and ready for use. Guest guest
tomatillos are excellent for making salsas (salsa verde). i posted a few recipes i had. there are also several more in the files section. i also use tomatillos in soups, esp. tex-mex/mexican inspired soups. i posted one of my favorite recipes. use the peppers in the tomatillo sauce...start with only one...the littlest peppers seem to be the hottest! susie --- On Wed, 10/8/08, Audrey Z Burrows <quiltbug wrote: Audrey Z Burrows <quiltbug tomatillas , " Vegetarian group " Wednesday, October 8, 2008, 8:40 AM I've just been given a baggy full of tomatillos - husked and ready for use.
