Guest guest
Greetings! My name is Margie. I'm a SAHM to a 6yr old and an 11 yr old. My veggie friends call me " baby veg head " since I am new to being a vegetarian. My non-veg friends call me crazy ;>). I've been meat free for 20 days as of today (GO ME)! I chose to go meat free for two reasons: I just cann't stand eating a living breathing " thing " anymore and I have health issues. I've always been a slight meat a phobe. I love steak and could eat it all the time. I also like chicken and seafood. The problem was that I would be eating and begin thinking about the fact that it use to be living/breathing and almost get sick to my stomach. So, it only made sense to STOP eating meat! Though I am not a vegan, I am slightly lactose intolerate and therefor don't drink/eat many dairy products. My family has yet to jump on the wagon, though my youngest has always disliked eating meat. He likes hamburgers and that's it. I've tested veggie burgers on him and he loves them, so I know it won't be long before he's on my side. My husband is another story! He's a steak and potatoes guy and my oldest is the same way. Though they haven't complained, I know not getting meat in their meals is driving them crazy. I've been cooking completely meat free all of the 20 days and will continue to do so. I figure if they want me to cook, they'll eat what I cook ;>) I've taken some of our favorite recipes and just deleted the meat or added beans it it's place. The only meat they get is if they fix a sandwich or if hubby eats out during the day. I respect the fact that they feel they need meat, but I don't feel that way. I've never been into many vegetables, so I've been able to try new ones recently. Upon our grocery store trip yesterday, I purchased some great new veggies to try. I even got some sweet potatoes. I know that sounds strange, but I've never tried them and since I'm trying to expand me horizons, they seemed to be a good idea. I'm looking forward to getting some really great recipes here and any other interesting information you guys/gals have to share. Guest guest
Welcome to the group, Margie. That was a great intro post; I enjoyed reading it very much. I know you will find many awesome recipes to try. Please look through our files: they are crammed full of tried and true recipes that have been shared in our messages over the past years by our members. I also share my house with omnivorous family members. It works out okay. I just cook what I want and if they choose to add meat, they go out and grill it or cook it for themselves. ~ PT ~ " There is enough for all. The earth is a generous mother; she will provide in plentiful abundance food for all her children if they will but cultivate her soil in justice and in peace. Guest guest
Welcome Margie, and CONGRATS and KUDOS to you for making the wise decision to go veg! It's great that you're adding more veggies into your meals, as these, whole grains, lentils, legumes, fruits and nuts are essential foods that we should try to eat every day. If you don't care for them plain, try putting some tastey herbs on them or other healthy seasonings. Good luck! margaretsdaughters <margaretsdaughters wrote: Greetings! My name is Margie.
