Guest guest
I have just finished a fascinating book called " In Defense of Food, " by Michael Pollan (Omnivore's Dilemma). He talks a lot about processed food and the problems with eating that. Processed foods are more heavily marketed to us and more available because they are the most profitable for companies to sell. The problems for us are: first, when foods are processed, they tend to become higher in the types of sugars that are quickly processed and so more fattening. Second, since they are processed, the fibers that would make us actually feel full have been removed, so we eat more. Third, because of the sugars in the food, our blood sugar levels spike and then drop, so we are hungry again sooner. So, if we are trying to lose weight and are eating a lot of processed foods, we're just shooting ourselves in the foot. Learning all this made me want to avoid processed foods even more. Just thinking about what I'm eating sometimes makes me eat better.
