Guest guest
This recipe is very easy and makes a nice vegetarian bean dish to share with friends. Last time I made this I stirred in some extra spicy brown mustard and it was wonderful; about 2 tablespoons. Easy Bean Bake 2 1/2 cups dry great northern beans (about one pound) 1 tsp salt 1 package (5.25 oz) MSF bacon strips, cooked and crumbled 1 cup packed sugar 3 Tbs molasses 3 small onions, chopped Place beans in a saucepan; cover with water. Bring to a boil; boil for 2 minutes. Remove from heat; cover and let stand for 1 hour. Drain, discarding liquid, and return beans to pan. Add salt, cover with fresh water; bring to boil. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for one hour or until beans are tender. Drain, reserving liquid. Combine beans, 1 cup liquid and the remaining ingredients in a greased 2 1/2 qt. baking dish. Cover and bake at 350 for 1 1/4 hours or until beans are tender, stirring occasionally (add additional reserved liquid if needed) Yield: 8 to 10 servings. ~ PT ~ Man's heart away from nature becomes hard. ~ Standing Bear
