Mulberries; was:Do you like berries?

At my other house we had two huge mulberry trees

in the backyard. Those were yummy. They really

stain your hands though. I live in a warm climate region

of Oregon near the California border hardiness zone

8 to 9. I think fruiting mulberry trees would grow well

where you live. The trouble with my old trees was the

previous homeowners hadn't pruned them down so they

were big and too tall. We let some kids climb up to get

some of the berries, but many of them just went to

waste if the birds missed them. Keep them pruned

short for easy picking!

If I put one out, I'll remember and trim it. My mom has one where she lives and

loves to make cooked fruit compote out of it and serve it over homemade biscuits

or whole wheat toast. I never seem to get down to see her when the mulberries

come in.
