Guest guest
Hello Everyone, Now that I've been given the official go-ahead by P.T. to join in I would like to introduce myself and say how encouraged I am to have found this forum! My name is Chell - I go by Chellibean with my family (old nickname that's supposed to be a variation of " Jellybean " )and by Chell (pronounced sh-ell) or Bean with my friends. I've been a vegetarian now for just under a year and a half and love it! I initially thought I would miss meat but I haven't had a craving or weak moment yet thanks to the wide variety of yummy vegan and vegetarian foods out there. I am looking forward to getting to know you all and trying out recipes. I am actually on my way out the door right after I send this. I purchased by first juicer last week and I am having fun mixing different veg/fruit combos. I have not yet made use of the pulp so I will have to check back in the files to see if anyone has already posted suggestions. That's all for now! I'm off to go foraging ;P Bean
Guest guest
Hi Chell and welcome to the group. One thing I'd like to interject here is be VERY careful NOT to mix fruit and veggie juices together, as it impairs digestion and only a partial assimilation of nutrients. However there is ONE exception: apples are a safe fruit to mix with anything. My personal favorite is carrot/apple juice: 6 carrots 2 green apples(skin on). Also juicing should never replace solid fruits and veggies daily, esp since juicing removes all the fiber from the food, which is why it is better to blend. Hope you don't mind my giving out this nutritional advice here, but I'm a student so it's just becoming instict for me to jump in with it when I see an opportunity to share what I know so far. chellibean01 <chellibean01 wrote: Hello Everyone, Now that I've been given the official go-ahead by P.T. to join in I would like to introduce myself and say how encouraged I am to have found this forum! Guest guest
Hm. I have never heard that before. Could you please post some sources of this info so I could further read on the subject. I know a lot of juice bars do combine fruits and veggies together so I never knew it to be a bad thing. Thanks. ~ PT ~ Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Guest guest
Hi PT. I have put up one link but will look for more if need be once I have time. Let me know. Thanks! However the basic reason not to combine fruits and veggies together is because each needs a different set of enzymes in digestion. More on this soon.... ~ PT ~ <patchouli_troll wrote: Hm. Guest guest
Hi Lisamarie! Thanks for the info. and keep it coming. I like the " jump right in " style of communication . I love the carrot/apple blend and have played around with some other fruits (pears and apples) but didn't like them as much -- they are not quite in season (ie sweet) enough for me. Funny you mention eating non-juiced fruits/veg -- I had that same thought recently. I know fiber is good for the body so I've been taking fiber tablets in recent days to supplement what I may be missing during my juicing honeymoon phase. Guest guest
I'm glad you like the info, Chell. I also sometimes will add an orange and some blueberries to the carrot/apple mixture too which is very good, although now I'm not so sure if that was a good idea or not although I was still fine after drinking it. chellibean01 <chellibean01 wrote: Hi Lisamarie!
