onoion and potato storage

I store mine in a Wooden Potato and Onion Bin similiar to this.

I bought mine from a neighbor that used to make these and and set up at flea

markets on the weekends. His prices were far more reasonable than this one,

but I wanted you to see what they look like. It sits on the floor, in my

kitchen at room temp. The screen front on them give them air. I line the

bottoms of them with wax paper, so that if any potatoes or onion spoil, they

won't mess up the wood. It just remove the wax paper after I finish the

potatoes and onion and line with fresh, before adding new potatoes or onions.

Potatoes and onions should be stored in a dark cool place. But not

refrigerated because that changes them and damages their flavor.

 

I keep them in paper bags in the pantry because they need to breathe to

prevent mold and deter spoilage.
