Guest guest
I had to share another yummy side dish idea that you might consider making for Thanksgiving or maybe Yuletide. This one is so good. If you can find some, try using smoked paprika instead of regular. And be sure to read those Worchestershire labels as many brands are not vegetarian and contain anchovies. There are several delicious brands that are fish-free. I use Kroger brand, and I find it at Fred Meyer stores. Wizard brand is another vegetarian sauce that I have heard of, though never found it to try; I think you can purchase it online though. Happy cooking! Scalloped Onions and Peas 1/4 cup butter or margarine 3 Tbs flour 1/2 tsp ground mustard 1/2 tsp salt 1 1/2 cups milk 1 tsp Worchestershire sauce [veggie] 2 jars (15 oz each ) white onions, drained 1 package (10 oz) frozen peas 1/2 cup sliced blanched almonds 3 Tbs grated Parmesan cheese Paprika to garnish In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter. Stir in flour, mustard and salt; cook and stir until bubbly. Stir in milk and Worchestershire sauce; cook and stir until thickened, about 2 minutes. Gently stir in onions, peas and almonds. Pour into a greased 2 qt. baking dish. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese and paprika. Cover and bake at 350 for 30 minutes. Yield: 8-10 servings ~ PT ~ It's all a farce, n' these tales they tell About the breezes sighing, And moans astir o'er field and dell, Because the year is dying. ~ Paul Laurence Dunbar, Lyrics of a Lowly Life
