Guest guest
Sue, I forgot to mention, there are cooking methods for dried beans which are supposed to help reduce the effects. One is to soak your beans before cooking, and rinse the beans well after soaking. This removes starches which contribute to this effect. Another I have read is to add a piece of kombu when cooking the beans. Kombu is a type of dried seaweed which you can buy at health food stores. Supposedly this also reduces the effect, and adds to the nutritional value of the beans. I have done this, and (combined with rinsing) I think maybe it helped. Anyone else know of any others?
