Guest guest
Hi, I'm Tonia and I live in a town in rural Texas which is a hard place to be a vegan. I'm vegetarian trying to be vegan. I'm female, 50 years old and very committed to my husband (just so you know from the get-go that I'm not looking for " romance " ). As I said in the post to Darcy, I was vegetarian in the '80s and returned to vegetarianism this past January. It's so much easier to be a vegetarian now than it was then. Then even though I lived in Austin at the time, there weren't a lot of resources for vegetarians. Now with the internet, there are many groups similar to this one. (I chose this one because of the connection with Tolkien.) My husband is still semi-omnivore, he eats animal products when we eat out and cheese at home but otherwise, he eats vegetarian and cooks the dishes I pick out for him to cook. He'll cook bean, grain and vegetable-based dishes and leaves the tofu, tempeh and seitan based ones for me to fix. It works out great most of the time. We have five companion cats and one bunny. My DH is a math/science teacher at the junior high/high school level and I work as a secretary at a local minor university. It's a branch off another university that's not in the UT, A & M or TTU systems, so it's not a top tier university. We're also Christian but flexible in our belief that God forgives and that He should be the judge of our fellow humans not us. I think people are born " gay " or straight and have to work that out for themselves. That abortion is a terrible choice to have to make but it should be the women's choice. That the government should keep their " hands " off our bodies is just as valid today as it was in the early '70s!!! I just wish they would be a lot more hand-on when it comes to protect the food supply from all the nasty factory farms that spew filth all over our veggies! That's all I can think of, right now. It's probably too much but I tend to get wordy. I hope that's all right.
