I have all my cookbooks listed on a data base so each one has a number.

Each week I ask my husband to choose a number at random from 1 to whatever

happens to be the highest number on my data base at that time. I choose one

new recipe from the book matching the number he chooses and that recipe goes

on our weekly menu. I don't have many books which are so specific that

there isn't a single suitable recipe but if, for instance, the number he

picks is a book containing only dessert or drink recipes, I go to the book

with the next highest number. Not only does this get us out of the recipe

rut but it also ensures that I use more than just a few favourite recipe

books.

QOTW: How do you get out of a rut?

The question of the week [QOTW] for April 1-7, 2007:

Have you ever found yourself in a cooking rut, serving and

eating the same ol' things over and over? How did you manage

to get inspired again?

Please share meal planning tips, recipe ideas, or any thing

you have found helpful in shaking the food blahs. :)
