Guest guest
Dear folks, Very intelligent and interesting posts on the question of wearing leather. Thanks to all who responded to my original post. I was/am very fascinated about this one comment: " Then there is ahimsa leather from India -taken after the cow dies naturally. " I am going to be trying to find where I can buy products made of this " ahimsa leather. " I really liked the wisdom of the observation that we all can't be " perfect " in making choices that demonstrate kindness to animals. For example, a couple of years ago, I had some autoimmune-type problems with my thyroid. For a time, I was prescribed Armour Thyroid, which is basically from the thyroid gland of a pig. It really troubled me to take this. Thankfully, I only had to take it a relatively short amount of time. I guess it's like playing darts - you shoot for the center, but you arent' always going to be able to hit that mark. Again, thanks to all for the great answers. Guest guest
I personally find it very comforting that the people on this list are very accepting of whatever efforts each individual can do to protect animal lives. The one and only time I went to a vegetarian group meeting, I was looked down upon because I was ovo-lacto and not vegan. Guest guest
Once, about 25+ years ago, I went to a small woman-only conference related to body image. It was held in someone's house and about 35 women were in attendance. I watched with dismay while a long and somewhat hostile discussion ensued about what foods should be purchased for the group's consumption during the weekend conference. Many women were arguing both pro and con serving meat. I did not say a word while the argument went on. Imagine my feelings later on when I realized that I was actually the ONLY vegetarian at the conference! Everyone was so busy trying to be politically correct, I guess, that they created disagreement among themselves when none of them was even vegetarian. Of course, I was glad they did have a lot of vegetarian food at the conference, but it was a big lesson in how people can manufacture disagreements by arguing points of view that aren't even representative of their own positions. mrf
