Guest guest
Another thing about Lent, at least with many Eastern Orthodox: it's about depriving yourself of something you don't need but enjoy. So, with meat, the Sunday following the big Pascha (Easter) Vigil, which happens at midnight, you often go to the vigil, go home and sleep, then cook and the church has a Sunday service and then has a big feast, with all the stuff you aren't supposed to eat during Lent. Since all dairy, eggs, certain kinds of oil, alcohol, and desserts are also discouraged, at least the vegetarians get to celebrate in their way as well... Monks and nuns are sometimes, by rule, vegetarian as well. I'm not really Orthodox anymore, but thought I'd share. -- Andrew Werling http://www.myspace.com/nitesead
