Guest guest
Hello, Very interesting question. Even though I am not Catholic, I would say the Catholic Pope because what he says, believes, has so much influence on so many people throughout the world - Catholic and otherwise. One would think that Catholic Franciscanism would embrace vegetarianism, since Francis of Assisi is depicted as being surrounded by animals (who he called " brother and sister " ), but I was disappointed to discover that most Franciscan monks and nuns frequently eat meat. In fact, I was REALLY surprised to learn that Francis himself was said to have eaten meat. If that is indeed the case, then I think all of those little critters surrounding him in paintings and yard sculptures better run for their lives. Not long ago, I asked a Franciscan nun who helped to run a farm at a monastary how she felt about raising animals there to be killed for " food. " She said, " Oh, now, the man at the slaughter house say that the cows are so happy when they walk towards the slaughter pen because they know they are serving God by willingly offering their lives for the good of others. They know that this is their purpose in life. " To which I responded to the nun: " Well, when one of your cows TELLS me this, then I will believe it. Otherwise, I don't. " Anyway, I would say the Catholic Pope is the one person I would most like to see turn to vegetarianism. Of course, I would like to see the entire world go veggie (smile). < " Old Man " Jim < , " ~ PT ~ " <patchouli_troll wrote: > > Here is a question of the week we did once before > about a year ago, but we have so many new > members now and the answers back then were > fun as I recall. > > QOTW for March 25th-31st: > > If you wished for anyone in the world that is not currently > a vegetarian to become one [on their own], who would it be > and why? >
