Guest guest
Thank you for the warm welcome. I have been trying to switch over to a vegetarian diet for so long now. I have three children ranging from ages 17,6, and 5. The 17 year old is not for it. But the youngest ones pretty much will try whatever I try. The only thing is that I don't know what to buy, eat or how to cook anything. And buying prepackaged vegetarian meals is costly. Actually I'm noticing eating healthy costs more all around. I enjoy looking at all the recipes they all sound tasty, but where do you get the ingrediants that are usually listed - at health food stores? I live in Cleveland, Ohio and the only places we have that I know of are like, Trader Joes, Health food stores, and Co-ops. So I guess I will have to do more research and keep looking at the posts. By the way has anyone heard of a diet where you just eat " raw " foods.? What exactly does that encompass? And is it good for people with diabetes (which I have) or severe food allergies (which the youngest has)? Thanks for any help you send my way. And again thanks for the welcome. I live in a very rural area with none of those great stores and I am still able to find most everything I need for vegetarian cooking. What I cannot find are things like TVP chunks and stuff like that, but we do have some mail-order sites listed for those in our links section. > By the way has anyone heard of a diet where you just eat " raw " foods.? And again thanks for the welcome. ~ I have heard of it. This diet has really gotten a lot more press and exposure since many Hollywood types have jumped on this trend. It has never sounded all that appealing to me though. I enjoy cooking and while I like some raw veggies and dishes, I like to have them in combination with cooked and prepared delights as well. I cannot comment on whether the raw food diet is good or bad for people with diabetes since I don't know. I would imagine it is safe as any other diet if you watch the sugar levels in the food you eat. Basically the raw food diet is just not to cook your food above a certain heat because they believe it causes a breakdown or " kills " the food's nutrient levels too much in the cooking process. I am not an expert though... all I know is thanks but no thanks to the raw food diet. *lol* ~ PT ~
