Guest guest
Christine: Your welcome I was mistaken I stick it 4 oz or 8 Tablespoons and 1/2 a cup. Gayle
Guest guest
Now this is where I have to disagree with people and stir things up a bit. Recipes are only guides. And the slight differences in amounts of ingredients added, or in differences in ingredients added will add to teh enjoyment of cooking and your culinary abilities. It is like going to the theatre to watch a play' no two nights will be teh same due to the nuances introduved by the mood of te actors and the directors. Sometimes this is beneficial, sometimes detrimental, but that is teh excitement of it. Okay, now for an example where this attitude doesn't pay off, I tried to make nougat once using this philosophy and ended up with toffee. glpveg4life wrote: HI Christine: Here a stick of butter is equal to 8 TBs or 1/2 a cup, or 8 oz. Gayle christie0131 Mon, 4 Dec 2006 1:54 PM Re: Doug and Mixed Vegetable curry Recipe I wish all cookbooks were as enlightened. My new Native Foods cookbook only give measurements in American, which seems like such an inexact science. I already had to buy cup measures but how is a person meant to know what a stick of butter or butter substitute comprises? or, even worse, a box of silken tofu? How do I know my box of tofu is the same size as yours? Oooops, obviously feeling grumpy after a day at work, LOL. Guest guest
Thanks Gayle. That is really helpful. 8 oz is a big " stick " . Makes me suspect that the box of tofu is also much bigger than the one on sale over here. Guest guest
I agree that recipes are guides and sometimes I follow them and sometimes I don't. Gayle
Guest guest
Douglas I think what you said is true. However, I think that cooking recipes are usually more forgiving than baking recipes. I much smaller change in ingredients or technique can make a much bigger difference in a baking recipe as your nougat recipe indicates.
