We just had our first frost last week and I gathered all the green tomatoes of my tomato plants the night before. So........... my question of the week is........ Do you like green tomatoes cooked a special way? I love fried green tomatoes, so we have been enjoying those in abundance right now. Sometimes I dice them up and bread them with my okra and onions and fry them together. Most grocery stores carry them. Looking forward to your answers. Guest guest Posted November 26, 2006 Report Share Posted November 26, 2006 Although we've had one official freeze here, somehow my garden came out OK--just a few leaves nipped a little. So I still have green tomatoes. I pulled all my bell peppers the night of the freeze. Next freeze is supposed to be Thursday so I'll be pulling my tomatoes then. I never have cooked the green ones, I always just put them in a bowl on the counter top and let them ripen. I have tomatoes for weeks that way. Now, I HAVE grown tomatoes that are designed to be green when they're ripe and I love those--great flavor! I'm sure fried green tomatoes would be wonderful--fried anything pretty much is wonderful! LOL. I don't do a lot of frying, but I love fried breaded squash dipped in catsup.
