Guest guest
Laurie, i don't have bipolar. However, diet is very important. First thing to do is cut out junk food, fried food and all chemical. Cut out all sugars, including natural sugars like honey and Sucanat and dried fruit. Take herbs like brahmi, gotucola, passion flower, gingko biloba. Eat for her Ayurvedic dosha. Now, by nature, bipolar II does not have as severe mood swings as bipolar I, but I would have to say the single most effective thing I ever found was cognative therapy. I highly recomend Dr. David Burn's book, Feeling Good: The New Mood Therapy. Since reading this book while in cognative therapy (eight years ago) I have been medication free - with dr's approval. Hope that helps... Beth
Guest guest
I have bipolar 2 disorder. I've found that when I read healthy foods my moods are more stable. If I indulge in excess amounts of junk then I don't sleep as well and I am more " up " which isn't good. HOpe that helps some. Dia
Guest guest
I would think Omega-3's are very important too. -Erin www.zenpawn.com/vegblog , " greatyoga " <greatyoga wrote: > > Laurie, > > i don't have bipolar. Guest guest
I can't help but say that this is a serious condition being discussed, and I strongly feel that if your friend's doctor (who is handling her Bipolar condition) isn't prepared (or knowledgable) about dietary concerns, I hope your friend seeks out a quilified nutritionist. I know that something as simple as grapefruit can affect bipolor (and other) meds effectivness. And many herbs can be a deadly mix with most psych meds. So I would be leary of giving, or taking, any advice from unqualified sources. Please be careful. hugs to you and your friend. Thia

Guest guest
I have also been diagnosed with bipolar along with anxiety and depression and a few other things.... I refuse to take medication though. I think that a healthy diet is very important for people with bipolar disorder. Like caffiene for example, people with bipolar disorder should cut back on this. Also too much sugar (makes me) crazy sometimes LOL It's hard to explain. On 10/10/06, laurie_heather_kay <laurie_heather_kay wrote: > > I was interested does anyone suffer from bipolar ? Guest guest
I agree that nutrition does have a huge effect on bipolar as well as our physical, mental and emotional makeup. I would be just as leery of MDs as nutritionists though. The average MD only takes about 3-6 hours of nutrition in med school and people look at them as gods. Most MDs and nutritionists have a bias against vegetarianism. Also most docs and nutritionists know nothing about things like doshas, which affect people and their reaction to food. They do not consider herbs and supplements. I would search out a naturopath or an Ayurvedic doc. In general, they know more about whole-istic nutrition and will not follow the FDA guidelines blindly. That said, there are many competitent MDs and nutritionists. GB , " Thia ....
