Hi Deanna--once again I've let a lot of the daily digests pile up

and I'm reading them now. But we have the same problem in our

neighborhood with the coyotes....I'm sure to a lot lesser degree

than you do on the ranch.

My suggestion is to keep the Mom and pup inside at night. That's

what I've done with all my cats and dogs until they were big and

aware enough to be able to run into the garage pet door for

shelter. It's a hassle, and takes some extra time, but there are

too many predators out at night in nature to expect the little ones

to be safe. Owls can carry kittens away pretty easily. That's the

way it is. All the predators have a purpose and place in the

ecology as I'm sure I don't need to tell you. My method is to

remove the little ones in my care away from harm's way until they're

big enough to defend themselves.

Sometimes there are no easy solutions are there?

Sounds like you are on an interesting learning journey and my best

wishes and warm thoughts, prayers etc. are definitely going your

way. I'm sure all your peaceful and caring vibes are affecting your

new environment, also!
