Guest guest
I am so happy you all have accepted using a pressure cooker. Quicker, safer, food retains its vitamins, you can eat in a few minutes. Hallelu......yah! Keep on cooking. Luanne
Guest guest
Actually, I have been looking at them since this topic came up a bit back with the discussion on cooking beans. I am aways wanting beans, or split pea soup, and I want it NOW! Not tomorrow! ROFL!! But, Ugh! I am flabbergasted at the choices!! What to do?? lol. What feature(s) to look for, or avoid?? I have my eye on these (links below). Tell me folks! Which would you buy, and **why**?? I need to keep it to the low side price wise. OMG! some of them can get rather pricey!!!! I *do* know that I want stainless, and not aluminum. I don't cook with anything aluminum. I don't think size matters to me (lol) but I *do* want to be able to cook a full bag of beans in it. Is 4 qt large enough for that?? I understand they can only be half filled, right? Oh, and it is highly unlikely I will be doing any canning. it's just never interested me. Ok-- so those of you in the know!! Help me out here!! lol! Are there any real differences in these, or what?? *Manttra 36111 6-Quart* *http://tinyurl.com/r7qlu **Fagor 6-Quart Duo Pressure **http://tinyurl.com/evvnc *(higher than I really want to spend) *Presto Professional 8-Quart **http://tinyurl.com/efz2u **Fagor Splendid 4-Quart **http://tinyurl.com/p6bx5 **Fagor 6 quart Rapida **http://tinyurl.com/rd96o **Presto 01362 6-Qt. **http://tinyurl.com/qp2k6 *(well, I *was* looking at this one, as it was only $39, but apparently it has since become unavailable. Not sure if that is temporary or what.) *Chef's Design 10-3/10-Quart **http://tinyurl.com/m22ab *(this seems rather large, but lower price than some others)* *Or are there any others over on Amazon (or some other " tried and true " site) any of you recommend? Guest guest
--- " Thia, I have had 4 pressure cookers in my life, all Presto. And you went for that one also. I just trust tried and true, and they are. Check this site. I just put the one you wanted into Google and came up with tons. But this one lists and compares. Guest guest
Exactly Luanne! Welcome to the revolution guys! As I wrote a while back it is fantastic for making beans as well as perfect rice in minutes. It is the best for soups and stews. I've even made Bread Pudding in mine! As someone else said here, it leaves the slow cooker a poor cousin. You will save on cooking costs and retain much more of the foods benefits this way. Now if I can only figure out how to make a good cup of COFFEE in it!! LOL!! Janis , " Luanne Moore A " <lahlbrand wrote: > > I am so happy you all have accepted using a pressure cooker. Guest guest
The Faber ones have almsmen as the middle sandwich section of a 3 layer pot. Think of a Oreo cookie. The cream layer is the aluminum layer and Stainless steel are the two outside layers. No aluminum ever comes in contact with the food, but makes the pot conduct heat more efficiently. No aluminum is seen as it is a sealed inner layer Hope this makes it easier to understand. Judy - Thia .... Guest guest
You can fill them up to within 3 inches of lid. It needs that space to build up the steam. in. 4qt should be big enough for most bags of small bean, but I think you'd really like the 6 qt and 8 qt. size for things like corn on the cob, large dry lima beans, larger quantities of any item, etc.......... Look at Linens N Things for pressure cookers. They are a good price. I think for $59 I got a box that had the 6 & 8 qt size pots, reg. pressure cooker lid and a clear lid and cook book. It was only $3 more than just the 6 qt. pot by itself. When I cook dry beans, I bring them to a boil for 10 minutes and turn off the burner, leaving covered for one hour. Leave it on the burner. Then after one hour, remove the lid, add fresh water , but not salt, replace lid and return to a boil. When it comes to a boil, turn down the burner and cook for 20 min. - 1 hr(depending on the bean size) and then open and check for tenderness. Follow the directions of your manufacture for opening the pot. I run mine under cold water at the sink and it will release, so I can turn and open it. Add salt and other seasonings of choice to taste and boil about 5 minutes longer. Judy - Thia ....
