Guest guest Posted December 10, 2006 Report Share Posted December 10, 2006 1 c. butter 4 eggs 1/2 c. buttermilk 1 lb. chopped dates 2 c. chopped nuts 2 c. sugar. 1 tsp. baking soda 3 1/2 c. flour 1 lb. orange slice candy 2 c. powdered sugar 1 c. orange juice Cream butter & sugar until smooth. Add eggs 1 at a time & beat well after each addition. Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk & add to creamed mixture. Place flour in bowl and add dates, candy slices, & nuts; stir to coat each piece. Add flour mixture to creamed mixture. Mix with hands, it will be very thick. Place in greased, floured pans (Nannie uses those rectangular bread pans, maybe 3 " X8 " ?). Bake at 250 degrees for 1 hr. 15 min. to 1 1/2 hrs. Mix the powdered sugar and orange juice, pour over cake while still hot. This is sooooo good!!
