Hot & Spicy Tofu Rec.-Not quite vegan!

Hot & Spicy Tofu-

 

3 TBS peanut oil

1lb Tofu(firm) cubed

1 red onion, sliced

1 red bell pepper, chopped

3 cloves garlic, crushed

1/3 c. hot water

3 TBS white vinegar

3 TBS soy sauce

1 TBS brown sugar

1 TSP cornstarch

1 TSP crushed red pepper flakes

1 green chili pepper, chopped

 

1. Heat oil in a wok or large frying pan over medium-high heat. Toss the tofu

into the oil, cook until its browned on all sides. Once its browned, toss in the

onion, bell pepper, chili pepper and garlic, cook it until its just tender

(~5min).

2. In a small bowl, whisk together hot water, vinegar, soy sauce, brown sugar,

cornstarch, & red pepper flakes. Pour over the tofu & veggies, toss to coat and

simmer 3-5 minutes or until the sauce starts to thicken.

I am confused. Which ingredient are you saying makes it not vegan?

Oh, I was thinking the brown sugar, but I suppose it IS vegan...hm.
