Guest guest
I'm not a vegan and I use dairy. I think that's a huge step from being a meat eater. Guest guest
Agreed, it is absolutely a big step. On another board I am on (sorry for the robot speech, I cannot use the apostrophe key because it brings up some search menu at the bottom of the screen and will not let me type it!) someone made a wonderful point. Our goal should not be perfection, but to do good. Even the tires on our cars involve some animal product or another. Being vegetarians we do an absolute ton of good! We save animals from being killed, we save some from being born, through that we save the bizillion gallons of water that is needed to raise them, we save tons of waste from being produced, we save ourselves from all the health issues associated with eating meat, and more. Ideally, yes, we would all be vegan so hens would not be packed into cages, water and energy wasted, cows would not be abused, male calves not turned into veal, and all that. But what that other person said on the other board is that when someone says, " But I could never give up ice cream, " rather than judging them to be a bad person or unwilling to do good, we should be saying, " Then give up everything but ice cream. " We can encourage them to do good without insisting the end goal be perfection. We do what we can, and it adds up. How much faster would the planet go to hell if we vegetarians did not do what we did? Just my 2¢, not meaning to offend anyone. Another thing, free-range and organic dairy and eggs are an option for those who are not vegan but want to minimize their " footprint " . It is not perfect, but it is a step. We do buy eggs on occasion and I am really impressed with Eggland (stupid apostrophe, I hate being a grammar nut who cannot simply leave the dumb thing out!!!)s Best cage-free eggs. The hens are fed a vegetarian diet and the eggs taste a lot better than normal eggs. Organic cheese also (in my opinion) tastes better than normal cheese, and all the organic cheese I have come across does not have animal rennet or whatever the stuff is they put in other cheese that is not vegetarian. isisdarkshade <isisdarkshade wrote: I'm not a vegan and I use dairy.
